On Saturday 5th December, West Hull and Hessle Conservatives held a coffee morning at Edward Liddell’s house, with guest speaker Lord Norton of Louth. As well as being Professor of Government in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Hull, he is heavily involved with plans to reform the House of Lords, and it was on the topic of Lords reform that he spoke. Laying out the various options for retaining, reforming and replacing the House of Lords in a clear and accessible way, he helped everyone present better understand the current state of affairs and the possible routes forward. While not everyone agreed on the best direction to take with respect to the Lords, it was a fascinating insight into the complex and very dynamic state of ongoing reforms.
Special thanks go to Edward for the use of his house and everyone who provided the excellent (and very plentiful!) cakes and biscuits.
